Depeche Mode announce first album in four years, ‘Spirit’
Posted on 12 October 2016
Revered electronic music band Depeche Mode have revealed the title of their first album in four years: Spirit. Spirit is expected to arrive in spring 2017, with a 32-date European tour to follow. The group’s travels will begin in Stockholm on May 5 and conclude in Cluj-Napoca on July 23. The Global Spirit Tour will then head to North and South America, though dates have not yet been announced.
“We’re working on the album with a new team: it’s produced by James Ford [of Simian Mobile Disco], and he’s helped us to make what we feel is a very incredible sounding record,” Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan told Rolling Stone. “He was able to really guide us.”
Like their last tour, a portion of the Global Spirit Tour’s proceeds will be donated to charity:water, a non-profit that seeks to make clean and safe drinking water more readily accessible to people in developing countries. In 2014, the band raised a whopping $1.4 million for the organization, which brought clean water to countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia and Rwanda.
Ahead of Spirit’s release and their world tour, Depeche Mode will also unveil Video Singles Collection, a full compilation of their videography from 1981 to 2013.
